Navy intercepts Russian bombers in western Pacific

By Lolita C. Baldor

WASHINGTON

U.S. fighter planes intercepted two Russian bombers, including one that buzzed an American aircraft carrier in the western Pacific during the weekend, The Associated Press has learned.

A U.S. military official says that one Russian Tupolev 95 flew directly over the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz twice, at a low altitude of about 2,000 feet, while another bomber circled about 58 miles out. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because the reports on the flights were classified as secret.

and some here continue to argue that we're the threat in the defense assistance of other nations.:sleep:

Those fools! We wear white hats.

Apparently no one got very excited about it, but I'm sure someone will find a way to parley a fortune of trillions into added Cold War 2 military hardware, but it seems maybe not, it's so routine he/they won't do that.

Russian bombers' flyover of U.S. aircraft carrier no big deal

WADR - I don't want the media to be the arbitors of whether this incident is a big deal or not, let alone one single military spokesman.

We're looking more and more like a paper tiger every day !

Conquered from within IMO. :(

That's me - Cynical & Suspecting . . . en guard !

I believe it's just another way of Russia saying "We're Back" they're just curious that's all. Nothing to get alarmed about.

This nations immediate foes are surrounding us and I have a list of incidents somewhere :looks around: 'round here to reveal incidents forgotten by the predominantly short sighted American populous, if they ever heard the truth in the first place.
:helpme:

I cannot imagine what that day's gonna look like.

Get your non perishable groceries H2º & munitions now !
They might give us an additional month or so on earth. :o

It's all the Presidents fault !! ALL OF IT !! :helpme:

"Populus - a genus of trees of the family Salicaceae that is found in the northern hemisphere; poplars"
What, now there arent enough trees to your liking?
The truth will set you tree?

The Russians and everyone else see the arms buildup of the Bush administration while the US economy heads down the toilet. I don't think anyone in the world really thinks the world is a safer place because George Bush says so. Nor do they accept the reasons for the economic collapse based on knowingly deceitful reasons to go into Iraq.

If I lived across the street from him, I'd get some big dogs and an electric fence, after seeing him beat up others without due cause.

All these posts make me want to bust out my copy of "Strategic Air command" or "Fail safe" or even "Dr.Strangelove".Go back to the good ole days of big bombers patrolling the sky's with 50 megaton bombs on board and girls in poddle skirts, before we knew or cared that it was all insane.Although Dr.Strangelove did realize the insanity of it all and I guess Fail-safe did too but "Strategic Air Command" sure didn't,but its still fun to watch with huge prop-jet bombers.:1orglaugh

Films like Strategic Air Command and Topgun and many others take the inherent insecurity and aloneness everyone feels from infancy and gives it a focal point, that there is nothing to fear, we are protected, we are safe. We can relax in our infantile perception of the world in the protective care of others.

Failsafe and Dr. Strangelove and other war films, like Private Ryan and A Bridge Too Far showed the futility and evil of it.

Friday on my mi, you mention the movie what I was thinking about! every time when I hear about news like that, I always think about Sidney Lumet "Fail Safe" with Henry Fonda... It was created in 1964, but I am sure that it should be a reference book for some hotheads.

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
An overzealous Russian cowboy (no Slim Pickens analogy intended) decides to buzz an American carrier and all of a sudden it's 1955 again? The TU-95 "Bear" is a counter-rotating turbo-prop driven aircraft that was prevalent during the same era as the old obsolete B-47 from mid-1950s. I seriously doubt that this is the machine that Russia would choose to launch WWIII with! LOL....we have more to fear from renegade Afghan rebels than some old Bear making a macho pass over one of our warships.

Laughable....I bet Ivan is already telling all his buds how he buzzed the Nimitz! Buy that man a vodka!

Just think how much more money execs in the military supply business could make if there was a cold war. We just don't get it.

What would you say if a Diesel PRC or N. Korean sub surfaced 00:30 minutes following the mid ocean antique fly - by ? lol !

It's just like some schmuck slapping you in the face, only this is on the world's stage.

When I read that, I didn't have the sense at all it was aggressive and perhaps not unexpected. Surprising maybe, but it got a lot less coverage than those Iranian speedboats buzzing the US ship last month.

I'll never forget that incident in the Pacific where two Chinese Fighter jets were playing "Kamakaze Chicken" with a US Navy EP3E Recon bird.
The P - 3 was indeed in intl waters and one of the ChiCom jets literally crashed the Naval turbo propped craft with, IIRC, a crew of 8 on board to boot !!

Well, as it turned out, The Chi - Kam pilot decided that he'd . . . well, check out . He perished in the "crash". The phenomenal pilot, "Osborne" was escorted safely to Hinan Island c/o the remaining PRC jet. The airframe almost didn't make it to the island but it did :hatsoff:

I think said incident occurred in gwbs first year as blockhead of the USA. Could a webby master locate that news clip ? Thanks in advance if so .:hatsoff:

Everything should be taken serious, IMO.
